Sustaining and growing a rich learning environment at Yick Wo requires the engagement of a diverse and supportive network of parents and families. Whether you work full time or have a very flexible schedule, there are many ways to volunteer, even with an infant or toddler in tow. Ours is a community in which we all have a role to play. We strongly encourage all parents to volunteer a minimum of one hour per month at our school.
LUNCH AND RECESS
Parent volunteers are critical to ensure adequate supervision and ample playtime for all our children at lunch and recess. You can sign up (below) to be a regular volunteer, or simply stop by unannounced any day; just sign in with Ms. Susanna in the front office and get a visitor sticker before heading to the cafeteria.
For Supervision of the Kindergarten and 1st Grade lunch recess (noon -12:45), a Google calendar exists to help with coordinate volunteer schedules. Sign up will begin on the first day of school. Feel free to bring bubbles to blow for the kids or sidewalk chalk for them to draw with on the yard... the children love it!
For Supervision of the 2nd, 3rd/4th/5th Grade Lunch (from 12:45 – 1:20). A Google doc calendar where you can sign up will be available beginning on August 20, 2018.

12:20 -12:45PM: K & 1st play on the yard

Most teachers can use a minimum of an hour a week of volunteer help in their classrooms, often for the sorting and leveling of books. Just ask you child’s teacher or Room Parent what their needs are and go from there.
Ms. Susanna needs 8 hours a month of assistance in the office.
Librarian Megan Mackey could use 2 hours a week of assistance in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please EMAIL her directly if you would like to volunteer.
If you would like to help nurture and/or help expand Yick Wo’s plantings through your labor (watering over the summer, planting, etc) or by providing in-kind goods or monetary donations, please reach out to the Volunteer Coordinator using the form at the bottom of this page.
Yick Wo’s Farmer’s Market (courtesy of the Marin Food Bank) makes free quality, fresh food available to all Yick Wo families in the cafeteria from 9:00 – 9:30 every Wednesday morning. Volunteers are needed from 8:15 – 9:45 every Wednesday to unload the truck, set up, disburse food, and clean up. Children are always welcome to volunteer there, too.
There are many creative ways we (and our children) can fundraise for our school, including holding lemonade stands and bake sales, donating services (such as babysitting), and yards sales.
Step right up with your ideas, passion, and time to help organize community-building and fundraising events for our wonderful school.
PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO)
The PTO meets once a month and all are welcome. Childcare is available on-site for Yick Wo students.
Yick Wo’s annual Panda Chase takes place in May and parent volunteers are critical to its continued success and the joy (and funding) it brings to our kids.
Room Parents are needed for each class to assist teachers with parent communications, field trip organization, etc.
This committee helps welcome and support families that are new to Yick Wo.
Do you have a clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, flute, or violin you would like to donate to Yick Wo's music program for use by students in grades 4 and 5 during the 2018-2019 school year and beyond? How about tambourines, bells, egg shakers, or maracas that K-3 students can use both in our music program and to play music together on the yard during recess? If you do, please let the Volunteer Coordinator know using the form at the bottom of this page. Thank you!
