Sustaining and growing a rich learning environment at Yick Wo requires the engagement of a diverse and supportive network of parents and families. Whether you work full-time or have a very flexible schedule, there are many ways to volunteer, even with an infant or toddler in tow. Ours is a community in which we all have a role to play. We strongly encourage all parents to volunteer a minimum of one hour per month at our school.

LUNCH AND RECESS

Parent volunteers are critical to ensure adequate supervision and ample playtime for all our children at lunch and recess. You can sign up (below) to be a regular volunteer, or simply stop by unannounced any day; just sign in with Ms. Melanie in the front office and get a visitor sticker before heading to the cafeteria.

CLASSROOMS

Most teachers can use a minimum of an hour a week of volunteer help in their classrooms, often for the sorting and leveling of books. Just ask you child’s teacher or Room Parent what their needs are and go from there.

LIBRARY

Our wonderful librarian, Mr. Christopher Lamb, could use periodic assistance in the library. Please send a message via the form at the bottom of this page if you are interested.

GARDENS

If you would like to help nurture and/or help expand Yick Wo’s plantings through your labor (watering over the summer, planting, etc) or by providing in-kind goods or monetary donations, please reach out to the Volunteer Coordinator using the form at the bottom of this page.

FUNDRAISING

There are many creative ways we (and our children) can fundraise for our school, including holding lemonade stands and bake sales, donating services (such as babysitting), and yard sales.

EVENT PLANNING

Step right up with your ideas, passion, and time to help organize community-building and fundraising events for our wonderful school.

YICK WO AUCTION

We need lots of volunteers for this fabulous annual event. Get in touch with Diana Tsu, Auction Chair.

PANDA CHASE

Yick Wo’s annual Panda Chase takes place in October and parent volunteers are critical to its continued success and the joy (and funding) it brings to our kids. Parents and caregivers can sign up to volunteer on Konstella. For more information, contact Ken Kim, Panda Chase Chair.

ROOM PARENTS

Room Parents are needed for each class to assist teachers with parent communications, field trip organization, etc.
