Please make sure to register in person at Yick Wo and to sign up for electronic school-wide communications via HEARD. HEARD is the secure internal website that allows Yick Wo parents, teachers, and staff to easily organize events and share important information electronically. One of the many benefits of Heard is that information can be translated into almost any language. Please be sure to sign up for Heard right away so you don't miss a Yick Wo minute!
Register Your Child at Yick Yo
All new families must register their student, in person, at Yick Wo Elementary School during school hours (9:30 - 3:30). Please follow the directions on the assignment letter that was mailed to you by the SFUSD or check the SFUSD website. If you do not register your student at school by the deadline mentioned in your letter, you may lose your student’s spot at Yick Wo.
The 2018-2019 school year will begin on August 20, 2018 at 9:30am. Students who do not attend within the first three days of school will be withdrawn. If you have enrolled but do not plan to attend, please notify the school or contact the SFUSD Educational Placement Center. The first day of school for kindergarten students is a half day that ends at noon. One parent for each child will be required to attend an introductory meeting during the morning.
The Yick Wo campus opens at 9:00am, playground supervision begins at 9:10am on the Upper Yard, and school begins for all grades at 9:30am. Kindergarten dismissal is at 3:20, while dismissal for 1st - 5th grades is at 3:30. Please pick up your child on the front steps of the school at the appropriate time. Before and After-School Programs
Morning care is offered onsite by the Excel YMCA Chinatown Team who have long run the after-school program at Yick Wo. Details about how to sign up will soon to follow.
On-Site: The Chinatown YMCA runs an on-site program at Yick Wo (3:30-6:30pm) Click HERE for more information on the ExCEL program.
Off-site: Many Yick Wo families utilize the After School Academy at the Tel-Hi Neighborhood Center (3:30-6pm). Tel-Hi staff come to Yick Wo at dismissal and walk the kids to the Tel-Hi Community center located at 660 Lombard Street. Have any other questions? Off-site: Salesians Boys and Girls Club picks up students in 3rd grade and up from Yick Wo at the end of the school day and transports them via school bus to Club, located at 680 Filbert Street in North Beach. For more information visit: https://salesianclub.org

After School Enrichment classes are available on-site at Yick Wo and programming is expanding in 2018-2019. Current class offerings include chess, Spanish, and piano.
What we ask of each Yick Wo parent:
1. Volunteer in any way you can: in a classroom, on the yard at recess, in the library or front office... there are so many ways. Help every day, an hour a week, or just once a month. Every little bit helps! You’ll meet new people, set an excellent example for your child, and have fun in the process. Visit our Volunteer page for additional ideas and to fill out a volunteer interest form.
2. Many of the programs that make Yick Wo so special depend upon the generosity of our community. We count on donations from all Yick Wo families to provide an enriched public school education for our children.
3. We need your ideas and passion! If you have a suggestion, please share it with a PTO Board Member and attend our monthly PTO meetings. All PTO meetings have time dedicated to hearing new ideas and requests. Meetings are held monthly throughout the academic year, and are a valuable way to see how the parents, teachers, and administration work together to create community, fund-raise, and foster parent education.
